Year 4 Greek Day
As part of our topic ‘Ancient Greece’, an Athenian hoplite visited us! We were transported back to Ancient Greece where we discovered many fascinating facts about Greek life: the Olympics, how Greece was divided into city states such as Athens and Sparta, who fought against each other, what life was like for Spartan and Athenian women, what the soldiers wore and we also re-enacted the Greek myth, Odysseus and the Cyclops.
As part of our workshop, we had the opportunity to handle Greek artefacts and learnt about how the Athenian and Spartan armies trained and organised themselves in battle – we even became a group of Greek soldiers complete with shields and swords!
